Welcome to
CT PLAY
Cottage Theatre's Program of Lively Arts for Youth

While Cottage Theatre's mission is to provide performing opportunities for people of all ages, we confess we have a particular fondness for getting children involved in theatre. That's what CT PLAY is all about :  providing ways for children to experience the magic (and hard work) of putting on a play. We regularly offer roles for children within our main season, where youth can work side-by-side with adult actors. In addition we offer some just-for-children opportunities like summer camps. To make sure you hear about CT PLAY offerings in a timely fashion, please sign up for our CT PLAY e-news list

Announcing our 2010 CT PLAY summer camps:

SKIT Camp

June 21 - 25, 2010

9:00 to 11:30 am

A half-day theatre camp for beginning performers

Learn all about acting and singing in this fun-filled camp designed especially for younger performers. SKIT Camp (Summer Kids in Theatre) is appropriate for beginning actors; absolutely no prior experience is necessary. At the end of the week, students will share what they've learned in an informal performance for family and friends.

This camp will take place in Cottage Theatre's Children's Workshop and Rehearsal Hall. Camp tuition of $60 includes a daily snack. Campers should dress comfortably and bring a water bottle.

Melodrama Camp

July 5 - 16, 2010

9:00 am to 3:30 pm

with performances on July 16, 17, and 18

A full-day theatre performance camp

Please note: As of June 3, this camp is full and has a waiting list.

In this performance camp, students will rehearse and present an original melodrama (with roles for all campers) in three public performances on the Cottage Theatre stage. Performances will be held on July 16 and 17 at 7:00 pm and July 18 at 2:30 pm, during Bohemia Mining Days. This camp will also include instruction in acting, singing, and dance technique.

Our 2010 melodrama, written especially for us by Cottage Grove playwright K.K. Mills, is titled There's a Rip in the Big Top . . . . or The Villains Were Grabbed by the Juggler. Participation in the three performances is required of all campers.

Melodrama camp tuition of $195 includes a t-shirt, snacks and one complimentary ticket to the melodrdama.

How to Register

Download Registration and Emergency Forms here or pick them up from the Cottage Theatre Box Office. These camps typically fill to capacity so early registration is encouraged.

Scholarships are available

Thanks to a grant from the Cottage Grove Community Foundation, a limited number of partial tuition scholarships are available for both camps. Scholarships are awarded based on need, and require a separate Scholarship Application Form.  Scholarship Application deadlines are June 7 for SKIT Camp and June 21 for Melodrama Camp.
